Avis Car Rental

BEWARE! My family and I picked up the car from Avis at Fort Lauderdale airport. Had no problems whatsoever so ever there. When we returned the car to this location, 1st the lady seemed like she was annoyed and didn’t want to be there. Asked for the papers or car keys, we forgot to grab the keys from my dad. While I stayed at the front desk my mom went back to get the keys. I literally handed the keys to her and she gave me the receipt. Didn’t have a problem with the shuttle to the cruise terminal but when I was waiting at the terminal to get on the ship. I get a 1st missed call from a man saying that we didn’t return the keys, informed him we did, he said okay no problem and thought that was it. Then maybe 20 minutes later or so get a 2nd call from Avis (and it was the SAME LADY who checke

My family and I travel to FLL often and we often rent and drop off the rental at this Avis location. The experience we've had with the front desk staff and other shuttle drivers have been a great experience. The reason I am giving our experience 1 star today is the experience I had with one particular shuttle driver. I did not get his name but he drove the bus style shuttle from Port Everglades to the rental location on Feb 15 at around 8am. My family was last to leave the shuttle as we had 2 small children with us (4 and 7 years old). My husband walked to the front of the shuttle first and was helping the driver not only unload the luggage for our family, but for other travelers as well. The car rental is great and I had no issues with it. If you’re planning on taking the shuttle to the cruise port after returning your car - beware. There was a significant line, but that itself was not a problem either - the real problem is that after a 40min wait, the shuttle stopped in the back of the lot and picked up the back half of the line. Luckily I was not in a rush, but when we tried to let the driver know those people were not in the front of the line he simply said he doesn’t care and that it wasn’t his job to control that. I wouldn’t expect him to fight with people or anything, but the least he could do was apologize and actually stop at the front of the line. He did neither. Strongly do not choose this branch! I am not even sure whether this location is operated directly by AVIS or by a subcontractor. Similar experiences as previouse reviewers mentioned. There appears to be a systematic risk of deposit being charged after the car is returned, using several questionable methods. If you book directly through the AVIS app, it seems more difficult for them to do this. However, if you book through third-party websites, you are at serious risk. As many previous reviewers have reported, you are not given a return receipt at the time of drop-off. Staff claimed they were “too busy” (especially on cruise days), but this appears to be a trap. Once no receipt exists, additional charges can be added later without your knowledge or consent. And their phone always dead.. I

Part of this is not their fault, but it is. First of all, Ft. Lauderdale knows this happens every Sunday and they really don’t care how much they hurt tourism because we (there were four of us) were told by some seasoned travelers that this has happened every time they’ve used Avis and cruised from Ft. L. It’s the traffic jam from cars making a u-turn at the nearest intersection by the EV charging station, including the Avis van), which causes the cars turning left not to be able to make progress, leaving the cars which should be able to keep straight from being able to do so.
