Avis Car Rental

I’d rate Avis Car Rental at the airport 4 stars. I was given a Hyundai Sonata, and the rental process was smooth. The agent was nice, professional, and informative. I subtracted one star because the car interior was not fully clean—there were some stains on the back seat and on the center armrest console. The drop-off process was straightforward and easy. Overall, still a good rental experience.

The main reason I chose Avis was because I thought their customer service was better than Budget. However, since they are the same company, it seems that there is no one at Avis right now and we ended up in a long Budget line. For the reservation I had at 5 o’clock, I now have to pay an extra parking fee, and I am also running late to pick up my son from school. I will no longer choose either Budget or Avis

It seems to be shared with Budget. The Avis desk was abandoned when I arrived. I stood there for 5 minutes and no one came. I finally asked the Budget desk next door and they told me to go to the back of the Budget line and wait. There was nothing on the Avis desk that said that I needed to get in the Budget line. Very confusing and frustrating. The area is under construction. The first lady I spoke to did not provide friendly service. But when I got to the the desk, I did receive acceptable service (though she rushed me when trying to read the fine print they were forcing me to sign).

Having used these frequently over the years, The last Rental will be my last. Queued for well over an hour, ( Usually only ever 2 Agents serving). When eventually it was my turn, After going thru all the Booking details etc, They blatantly refused to release the vehicle, Apparently because it was booked thru Expedia! What difference that makes I’ve no idea! Contacted Expedia on chat while I was there, They too couldn’t understand why they refused the Vehicle to me. ( We weren’t the only ones either) Young family with 2 very small children were also refused, Plus a number of others. Managed to get my money refunded but it took over 6 weeks to refund. I’d rather get a Taxi to my destination and hire locally. Absolutely awful Company to deal with.

One star is too much. This Avis car rental service at Melbourne airport is one of the worst customer service and they don’t care and respect customers at all. I have a flight itinerary which booked with government travel card for rental and when I showed up to sign my car, nobody really working at the Avis rental desk and I have to wait for more than 40 minutes. Eventually, one of the guy from budget rental companies desk issued me a car. I told him that according to my reservation it should be from 3 Aug to 6 September 25. But the guy who works there said only 30 days for me and call the company and extend later.
