Hertz Car Rental - Des Plaines - Mannheim Road

I was shocked when I got into the rental car they gave me. It had over 130,000 miles and was making all sorts of noises. Here are some of the things I noticed with the vehicle: bad tires, unusual noises, ineffective windshield wipers, windshield nozzle not spraying, very high mileage, steering wheel shaking on the highway. Do yourself a favor and choose another place to rent a vehicle. This place is a joke!

Very disappointing experience. They changed my reservation and increased the rental fee without a valid explanation. On top of that, the car was dirty, so I ended up paying more for a dirty car. The rental agreement stated the fuel was at 100%, but it was clearly around 80%. The staff member told me to return it “the same way,” but anyone who has rented a car knows they charge about $10 per gallon to refill it. I felt they assumed I was naive. This was unprofessional and dishonest. I would not recommend this place unless you enjoy surprises… the bad kind.

They make you choose a time to pick up your car, but when you arrive and check in, the waiting time is approximately an hour and a half. And as if that weren't enough, you arrive and there's no one working, you wait for about an hour, and then someone shows up and tells you there are no cars available and that you have to come back the next business day. This company is a joke and the worst there is.

This was one of the most stressful rental car experiences I’ve ever had, and it involved child safety. I rented from this Hertz location specifically because the official Hertz website allowed me to reserve and prepay child safety seats for my 5 and 7 year old daughters. Several other agencies near Chicago did not offer child seats, so this was the deciding factor. When I arrived, by Uber, with no other transportation, they pulled the car up and only then told me that this location does not carry child safety seats at all. Not that they were out, not that they had the wrong size, they told me they never have them. Yet the Hertz website allowed the reservation and took my money. Here is a story and I promise I will not embellish anything. Pickup time 10am. Left with the car at 1140 after sitting in a dirty room with the employees messing around and disappearing into the back to eat and joke around over and over. Drove the car for the week I needed and returned it clean and just like I got it. I was then over charged 300 dollars from what the invoice said. I called customer service and was informed it was probably a deposit that would be refunded. A deposit taken after I returned the car? So I waited and nothing happened so I called and now I'm being told it was a 300 car cleaning fee lolol. The car was perfect.
