Hertz Car Rental - Jackson - Jackson-medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN)

This will be my first and last time renting from Hertz at this airport. From the beginning, the large, sassy male employee seated behind the desk had a dismissive attitude. I was given a Toyota Corolla that appeared muddy and not properly cleaned, with no inspection or walk-through—unlike other Hertz locations where staff inspect the vehicle and walk you to it. After driving out from underneath the parking garage and seeing the car in proper lighting, it became clear how dirty the vehicle was, including the seats and floorboard. I drove the car home, then contacted customer support, opened a case, and was told a replacement would be provided. I had to give it one star, as it wouldn’t let me give negative stars. Incompetent management and staff. They should fire the entire staff and close the location. They can teach a Master Class on how not to treat customers. I’m putting it very nicely. You are better off flying into Birmingham, New Orleans, or Memphis and renting a car there than you are wasting time at the Jackson Airport location. Posted photos were taken 17 minutes prior to the posted closing time. When I came back the next morning to get the car that had been booked for a week, I explained that it was closed upon arrival, the lady said “yeah, we got bored and went home”.

This Hertz location does not even deserve 1 star - they really deserve a new category ranking of “0” stars! I love Hertz and choose them almost all of the time, but will look to Avis or another the next time in Jackson, MS. I had a reservation and the flight information was provided. However, when I landed and went to the parking deck (as I do in almost all small airport locations), there was no one in the small office and no board to show where my car was located. So I went back inside and stood in line for half an hour to get my car. Great service! When I returned the car, it was even worse. I drove into the Return area and barely had room to park because there were so many returned cars parked there and NO ONE working. I left the keys in the car as I always do and returned the paperwo

Unfortunately this rental counter is hideously understaffed, as are the rest of rental car counters. The employees really do attempt their best but for busy travelers this is just completely unacceptable. Until these rental companies Hertz, Avis, Alamo etc etc address these staffing shortfalls, Jackson “International” Airport will be your initial armpit to the city….and thats sad and extremely unfortunate because Jackson deserves so much better.
