He was smooth—confident, even charming—and genuinely seemed to believe it was a great car. He said his own son drove one just like it. We wanted to believe him. My son was proud of his decision, and honestly, it was hard to say no when he was so happy. But within two weeks, the problems started. An oil leak. The seller offered to have “his guys” take a look, but wouldn’t say when, and we weren’t allowed to talk to them ourselves—they didn’t speak
