National Car Rental

For some reason, rental cars are not always available for reservations at National as well as other companies I have used in the DC area, during holidays. However, National will call to inform you. I especially love the customer service at the DC Union station location. They are very professional and flexible.

Do not rent from this location if you can help it. As someone who rents fairly regularly, nothing comes close to how awful my experience was at this specific branch. I’m not sure whether it was the staff’s incompetence or their laziness that stood out more. As far as the vehicle goes, the exterior was filthy, interior was disgusting as well and reeked of cigarettes, extremely out of date model, and had noticeable damage, and gave it to me with a quarter tank of gas like it was okay. I was in a hurry so beggars cant be choosers, however I think I’m done with national after this instance. Shame on the management if that is the standard of customer service they deem acceptable. Do yourself a favor and avoid this location at all costs. If I could leave zero stars I would.

I arrived a bit early by about 20 minutes and their system decided to charge me 15x the quoted rate for whatever reason. When I presented the quote with my reservation, the staff immediately made the necessary adjustments and refunded me the difference. Easy peazy. Great customer service.

Renting at Union Station is so easy thanks to the friendly staff and simple and convenient process. The staff also answer the phone - I needed to extend the rental and it was so easy to do by simply calling in. Thank you for the smooth and personal service!

I saw some negative reviews but I had an incredibly smooth experience with National. And I was a walk-up with no reservation. The employees were helpful, efficient, and friendly. The car was nice and the after hours return process was easy. Pricing was transparent and the overall cost was reasonable. When you return, though, set your GPS to 99 H Street NE. That will take you right to the entrance of the parking garage. Good rental experience
