Payless Car Rental

I would give 0 stars if it was an option. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Where to begin.... we rented a car from Salt Lake City Airport Payless Car Rental. When we first received our car, it was a smaller size than we paid for, had existing hail damage, and scratches all over it. After documenting everything to make sure we didn't have to pay extra for pre-existing damage, we drove away. About 20 min into the drive after we got out of traffic and started driving above 65, we noticed a really loud sound coming from the back left tire. We called customer service and let them know and they told us we would have to come back and switch the car out. By the time they told us this and after being on hold, we were about 45 min away up the mountain. We told them we wanted this Documented and did not want

Horrible. Long line and understaffed. Very slow. I’ve been in line now for over an hour and probably still have an hour before I get a car. They have no respect for our time or comfort whatsoever. Update. When I went to pick up my assigned car, there was no car in the spot. Apparently they have two separate software programs (the other with Avis), that have access to the same cars. So our assigned car had already been rented out, but still showed as available in the other software. Unbelievable incompetence for the year 2025. We finally got changed to another car, but what a hassle.

If I could give less than one star then I would. Over 2 hours to wait in line, all while the representative at the desk sat on her phone without helping anyone. She even looked annoyed when I interrupted her to see if she was working. Horrible experience and customer service.

While the counter staff are nice, watch out on return. Take a picture of your mileage & fuel; might be good to take photos of the entire vehicle. If I had not gone to the counter to ask for a receipt, I would not have seen the $13 that they tried charge me to for fuel, despite having a full tank which I was able to show the terminal agent. This was going to be a 5 star review as the vehicle was also nice until I dealt with the scam of the check in agent who probably assumes that no one will want to deal with the rental counter for a receipt

Came in from Michigan which the time is 2 hours later than Salt Lake City.and we actually arrived 20 minutes early. We now have been waiting in line for over an hour and looking at the line now it still looks to be another hour or so. The time now is 11:15 pm but Michigan time is 1:15 am ( I am exhausted). This so far is the worst experience I have EVER had picking up a rental car.
