SIXT Rent A Car New York Williamsburg

Let me start off by saying I was specifically sent to this location after calling customer service because I was given a car that reeked of marijuana and the air vents had about 2 inches thick of ashes that were not wiped clean and the amount of dings around the car was just unacceptable for the amount of money I am paying. Just a horrible experience from the moment I walked in stating they do not have any “luxury vehicles” he doesn’t know why I was sent there even after reading the note on my account and then the guy I believe his name was Miguel, after about 15 minutes of scrolling on his computer he tried to proceed and give me the keys to a car that had a hit and run and rims and back of the car scuffed with yellow paint as if someone backed up into a pole. Service was excellent. Zero complications. Strong management with attention to all necessary details (emails with rental information, phone call confirmation before pickup, and a friendly attitude). And most importantly, providing a local business phone number is a case of inquiries. When I arrived to return the car at night, the parking lot was full. I called Sixt, and they changed the return location to “Times Square” instead of Williamsburg. But overall, 5 stars for pick up.

Unfortunately, Sixt USA reminded me of why car rental companies have such a bad reputation. I am a Platinum member but usually rent from Hertz. I specifically chose a Sixt for the premium car selection they advertise everywhere. I reserved a Luxury SUV (BMW or similar) weeks ago. At pickup, I was offered a midsize suv (Mazda). So far, so good. Availability issues can happen. Just apologize, adjust the rate and offer compensation. No. The associate explained to me that a Mazda is an UPGRADE over a BMW with roughly double the MSRP. Sure. Midsize is above luxury. A minivan tops a luxury sedan. I asked to speak to the manager who was busy. To add insult to injury, the Mazda had less than half a tank, 35k miles, a maintenance warning and dirty interior. Picked up a car from the Williamsburg Sixt branch right before closing, and the vehicle reeked of cigarette smoke. I had no choice but to keep it all weekend. When I returned the car and contacted customer service, I was assured the rental would be refunded (Complaint #7050). Instead, I was still charged, and Sixt later refused to honor what they told me. A car in that condition should never have been rented in the first place. So now I’m leaving this review hoping the branch takes responsibility and resolves this. Rental agreement: 9606280923.

My husband and I rented a car for one day (pickup Sat at 1pm and return Sunday at 1pm). We confirmed the rental an hour or so before pickup and received a confirmation from Sixt. When we arrived at the rental place, we didn’t see anyone working. After waiting and waiting, someone finally showed up after 1pm and says they were parking another car and too bad so sad the location closes at 1pm and we can no longer rent the car. They told us to come back tomorrow and would not budge when we told them it was only a 1 day rental. We then said we would need to cancel the reservation since they wouldn’t let us rent the car and they said the cancellation fee would apply. They finally got a manager involved who “waived” the fee for their own error. We won’t ever use them again. Thanks for nothing.
