I have literally never left a negative review in my life. But I feel so scammed from this place’s shady practices, I gotta let people know I came to San Diego for a couple weeks and got my mom’s car washed. The guy with his ipad taking my order tried to upsell me for a month… At first, I said no because I’m only here for 2 weeks. He said, you sure? It’s been raining here in SD and for the month it’s only X amount of dollars more. I appreciated the persistence so I said fine. Come to check my bank account later and the guy put me on a monthly subscription without my knowledge! Months and I didn’t know. I’ve been a member of Soapy Joe’s Car Wash and regularly use the Fairmount Avenue/Mission gorge location. The staff here is consistently friendly, helpful, and professional. The property is kept clean and well‑maintained, which I really appreciate. However, the main issue is with the wash system itself. When you pull in, the car doesn’t get fully soaked before the brushes start moving. This means the brushes hit parts of the vehicle—especially the front and rear, while they’re still dry. For SUVs and minivans, the problem is even worse because the liquid doesn’t reach the entire back of the vehicle before the brushes begin. This creates a real risk of scratches and feels like a system timing or calibration problem. The employees do a great job, but the wash system needs attention. Fixing
