Avis Car Rental

I started to become an avid Avis renter and enjoyed the lower prices and easy parking at the Embassy Suites (compared to the airport). Even my interactions with the staff were generally pleasant, once you got over the non-standard rental arrangement and the less than clean cars (trash, left over cleaning wipes, etc.). However, all-in-all, my experience was okay...that is until a recent, random $250 charge on our credit card multiple weeks after we had returned our last vehicle. Tracking down the charge was a huge headache. No one at Avis could tell me why I had been charged $250. They required that I send them copies of my last rental agreement and my credit card statement showing the charge (with other data redacted). Does a company keep such bad records that they are unable to determine

Location is difficult to find. There is no signage or labelling for Avis. It's within the Embassy Suites, but at the far back. You can't enter through that door though, you have to go through the front door. Typically, no one is working the counter, there's just a phone number taped on the door that takes you to a robot-response that frustratingly forces you through 30 different menus. UPDATE: They put a new phone number that at least goes directly to the local business rep. You have to call this number when you arrive in order to get your rental. Plan ahead -- in many cases they need to shuttle a car from the airport to this location. That can add about 20 mins to picking up your vehicle.

I had a horrible experience with a car that ended up having a windshield wiper pump failure. I hit rain driving the rental and was unable to drive the car. It wasn’t raining hard enough to wet the windshield and the dirt kicked up from the cars around me just smeared the windshield and I was unable to see to drive. I called Avis to ask what I should do as it was unsafe to drive and they had a service come and tow the car. Avis not only billed me over 200 extra to my rental as a fuel fee. Two weeks later they charged me over 400.00 for towing the car even though I had all the insurances and the broken pump wasn’t my fault. Avis billed me over 1,000 for a 400.00 rental. I called customer service and they offered to refund 600. But 10 business days later, I hadn’t seen the refund. I called cu
