Budget Car Rental

Called yesterday to talk with a rep. She was very dismissive. Explained the situation that because of a changed drop off the hold from our previous rental was still on my credit card but I had a card in my wive’s name and her id. If I could use that, she said yes of course. I get here today and what sounds like same brisk woman told me of course she can’t give the car to me. My wife would have to be here in person. She said I haven’t been charged so I can talk with any of the other companies, but I specifically requested a 7 seat vehicle and would be charged $50 for canceling… So now I am waiting and watching this less than helpful person as my wife rushes over with our kids so that she can stand in front of this person what an absolute waste. I usually have good experiences with Budget, and this rental was fine. Unfortunately, the drop-off experience was disappointing. When I arrived, the employee did not greet me. When I tried to hand him the key, he motioned with his finger and told me to leave it in the cup holder, which felt dismissive and disrespectful. I also found a marker in the car and handed it to him, telling him I found it inside the vehicle. He didn’t even say thank you. During the inspection, his attitude made me feel uncomfortable and judged, and I left feeling embarrassed and discriminated against. I could be much harsher, but I choose to remain respectful. I hope Budget takes customer service more seriously.

The worst rental company I rented a jeep grand Cherokee or similar on line because when I went to the location he told me can't get that price i have to rent it on line. So I did. Payed for the rental on line with the pay now option, to be picked up on Saturday 9/20/2025 at 2pm pick up at holiday inn westbury (carle place). On the day of pick up o called to ask if I could pick up car early and was told no I have to wait until 2pm. I arrived at the location at 1pm or a little later, I was told not only thst they did not have a 7 passenger they had no cars to give me. They had none at new Hyde park and none at hicksville bethpage. No cars nothing the verry least they could have done is call me prior so I could have made other arrangements. We were charged an unjustified gas charge even though we returned the vehicle with a full tank! When we picked the car up there was only 3/4 tank and we didn't feel like going back inside with large lines and wait time to dispute 1/4 from full so we just left it alone. They also charged us a roadside assistance fee and another fee they say we added. My husband said he declined those coverages and signed to decline. Unfortunately he thinks he left the paperwork in the car which they should have found when we returned it. The customer service rep said she only had authority to credit 50% of the additional charges and then did credit back the gas charge. I read all the bad reviews on here and they are accurate. Car rental was less than $35 a day until our flight was canceled for weather. At that point the extension jumped to $301 a day. That's an increase of almost 10x the original rate. While I understand "pricing is subject to change", the legal/criminal definition of price gouging is a 10% increase (roughly $3.50 for the daily rental rate) over the original rate, this Unethical company increased the rate by more than $260 a day above the original rate, far exceeding the criminal standard. Proceed with caution as Budget car rental is unwilling to work with you in an emergency situation and will price gouge you when your options are exhausted. I would certainly consider them a financial predator and opportunist.
