Budget Car Rental

This Budget is the worst car rental location ever, and i will pay money next time to avoid it. The pickup experience took around 30 minutes. The highlight however was returning the car, which took a full hour. It frequently happens that you simply cannot return the car because the “garage is full”. The staff hardly speaks English and the phone line is not available ( according to the manager for months ). Avoid at all cost!

I don’t usually write reviews, but this place deserves one and not in a good way. The service at Budget Manhattan was absolutely atrocious. I waited over three hours to collect my car….three hours of standing around while the only staff shuffled papers, ignored customers, and acted like it was no big deal. The whole operation is chaotic and unprofessional. No communication, no urgency, and zero sense of customer care. Every single person in line was furious, and the staff member couldn’t have cared less. If you value your time or your sanity, do not rent from Budget Manhattan. I wish I could give zero stars!! Budget by name, and by service.

Disappointing experience from start to finish. The car I received was dirty inside and out, with a windshield so grimy it made driving in the rain difficult—and there was no windshield washer fluid to help clean it. The attendant rushed through the check-out process and didn’t want to note the many scratches and marks on the vehicle. To make matters worse, there was a painted number on the driver’s side window, which looked unprofessional and added to the overall sense of neglect. This experience has really discouraged me from using Budget again. I’ll be moving my business account to Enterprise, where vehicles and service have always been handled with more care and professionalism.

Do not rent here. I just stood in line 1 hour to be told they have no cars. The lady at the front desk said the location is *always* the slowest because the building has an elevator. She said they are short cars EVERY DAY. You then get told to wait until someone turns a car in or someone drives here from an airport. ***sorry Susan. I can't find time to address this with you as I am stranded in a parking garage in CT because the car I finally got was a partly charged EV. So now I am trickle charging and hoping my cell phone runs down less quickly than this car takes to charge up. It has been a real fun day. My review stands. (And I will be late returning the car.)

We stood in line for 40 minutes, even though we had booked the car in advance. We had a nice chat with the manager (an elderly man in glasses) and told him that we were planning to go far — to Niagara Falls with kids. We booked a Toyota RAV4 but received a Dodge Hornet instead. They handed it over quickly; we noticed damage, and the guy said everything was okay and already documented. I asked where our Toyota was, and he said there was none — this is “the equivalent.” What equivalent?! The trunk was much smaller — and we had suitcases! We didn’t argue because there were a lot of people, it was hot, and very inconvenient to take the car since there was a traffic jam there. We took the car and left.
