Budget Car Rental

Rented a car and a day into it, I opened the center console to put something in. What I found inside was DISGUISING- paper rolls to make a joint, scattered remnants of pot/weed, dirty napkins, a bottle of medicine and a lighter. Gross. Nasty. Do they actually inspect and clean the cars between rentals?? Not to mention, is pot legal in the states in which this car has been driven in? God forbid an unknowing renter got pulled over and accused of possession of this. I’m very turned off to this company/location. I reported it to the company’s customer support, and hope they deal with it. I’m in awe at trashy condition Budget rents cars in. At least the reception staff are pleasant and helpful.

Customer service was friendly, but gave me inaccurate information about being able to use my debit card for the rental. I called ahead as I know some companies won’t let you rent with a only a debit card (not prepaid but one ) one associated with a checking account and they confirmed I would be able to get the car. it ruined my road trip and I’m waiting for the money that they did take for the rental back on my card. But customer service was pretty nice. I would’ve gone with another company if I got the correct information and won’t ever use Avis or budget again because of this.

TL;DR: Avoid. Dishonest practices, dirty vehicle, and a complete lack of customer service. A one-day rental at $61 ended up costing $146 — not worth it. Reservation I made wasn’t ready when I arrived. I was told only available option was a minivan, which I declined and offered to wait. After waiting 5–10 minutes, I was told a vehicle was available. In hindsight, this should’ve been a red flag, as the rep was insistent just a few moments before there were no other cars. I was handed a rental receipt stating car was good to go with full tank of gas. In reality, the car was in poor condition — visibly dirty with dust throughout the interior — and the brakes made a loud creaking sound when pressed. Absolutely the Worst Rental Experience – Would Give -5000 Stars if Possible I rented a car through Costco Travel with Budget Car Rental at IAD for one week, with a total quoted price of $397.47. My flight arrived late at night, and I had to wait 70 minutes at the rental counter to complete the process. There were over 20 people in line and only one staff member working. The wait was excessive and showed a complete lack of regard for customers. The next morning (May 10, 2025), the rear right tire pressure dropped to 16 PSI. This was my first time renting with Budget, and I have to say what an amazing experience! I’m a Fastbreak member, so everything was ready for me when I arrived. I simply picked up my contract from the Fastbreak shelf and was on my way, zero wait time and no counter interaction needed, which was super convenient. That said, I did stop by the counter because I needed a small favor, and I was helped by Mr. Charles and another gentleman (I believe his name was Atif or Alif). Both of them were incredibly kind and professional, but Mr. Charles went above and beyond to help with my request and truly made me feel valued as a customer.
