Dollar Car Rental

I don’t usually write good reviews but that place is underrated in my opinion. I used a wildcard rental option thru carrentals.com twice and both times get a better car (actually I got a truck / minivan) than expected. Clean vehicles, fast checkout and return. Upsells attempts are a bit annoying but it is a standard in the industry so nothing new here. And yes, you need a credit card but I found that most car rental companies do not accept debit cards for accidentals

ROTTING MEAT WAS LEFT IN THE VEHICLE! To start off, I got a vehicle from the lot and drove to the window to check out only to be told to drive back to the lot and return the vehicle because the car was “on hold.” What do you mean on hold?! I was given instruction to pick any vehicle in that the economy lot, which obviously was not completely true. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I noticed there was an odor to the vehicle and when I parked at the hotel I was staying at I opened the windows a little to let the car air out. Two days later I returned to the vehicle and the odor was so strong I could smell it from outside the car. I opened the rear hatch to find a cardboard box. I then opened the box and there were about 50 pieces of raw chicken meat rotting in the box from the previous renter!!! Dollar Rent

Booked car rental online for $108 at the Spokane Airport. Got to the counter and the pushy sales man said he was upgrading my car due to the weather at $31 per day, an additional $6 per day and slapped down the keys. I went along as I have no experience with car rentals. Pushed me into car insurance by scarying me that my full coverage auto insurance wasn't adequate for the rental, an extra $26 per day. When the bill came the car rental was my original contract of $24 per day plus $31 per day or $55 per day. If I had wanted that rate I would have picked it online. This pushy salesman did not go over the contract, just initial here, here and sign here. Being stupid and new to rentals I did. My bill ended up being $328. I called to complain and got told, you signed the contract.

Rented an suv at Tampa airport prior to my trip. The vehicle I was given at TPA had a strong cigarette smell that I did not notice until rolling up the windows (which were all down when I got to the car in the parking garage - should have been my first clue) and parking at a beach 45 minutes away. By then, driving back to switchout the vehicle was not an option as I had a tight schedule to follow for my grandmother's funeral. I called dollar to see if there would be a car along my route and/or closer to my destination that I could pick up, and the answer was no, there was not. They offered to reimburse any cleaning fees I may incur if I'd like to try to get it cleaned (!? Completely out of the question - it's SMOKE and I had no time). I asked if they could have someone come switch the car

Counter experience was positive, the car was totally fine, but the amount charged for Tolls was beyond excessive! I understand passing along the charges for Tolls but Dollar tacked on so many fees that a $3 toll charge turned into a $30 outstanding bill. Take better care of your customers and I'll rent with you again. At this time I would look elsewhere for a car rental.
