Dollar Car Rental - Kansas City International Airport

was my first time renting with Dollar, and overall the experience was okay, but I did have two concerns. First, the agent who assisted me during check-in appeared to be unwell and was coughing. This made me uncomfortable, as I wanted to avoid the risk of getting sick. Unfortunately, she was the only agent available at the time, so there wasn’t another option. Second, the vehicle selection could be improved. Some of the cars available were older models that did not appear to be in the best condition and did not seem to be thoroughly cleaned. When we selected a 2025 Kia Forte, we noticed a dent that had already been documented from a previous customer, which ended up being the only drawback of that vehicle. On July 11 2025 I rented a vehicle with Dollar Car rental, they did not have the vehicle I rented available and the vehicle I was provided with was in terrible condition. I was quite upset and the representative even gave me a credit back for the inconvenience and the condition of the car. I took video and pictures of the condition of the car and when I returned the vehicle I asked the person checking in the car if there was anything I needed to do because the condition was so bad I didn't want to be held responsible, because again I had video. Three months later I am receiving a charge from Hertz/Dollar corporation in the amount of $577.07 claiming that I caused damage to the vehicle. Just so you know Dollar car rental is really Hertz. Not sure why they haven’t gotten rid of the Dollar brand altogether. Maybe it’s like Truist is the new Wells Fargo but they never had the budget to change all bank logos! Okay am digressing. Always long lines at the rental counter but at least there were about 3 people. Rates are great, you get to choose which car based on the category you rented. Their compact car was a Kia and it wasn’t compact at all for my needs - clean, no smoke fine odor or sweaty sucks odor even with linen car seats. The car I rented already had 100k miles but ran fine without no issues and good mileage per gallon. Car return was also smooth.

The overall experience of picking up the rental was as expected. The person at the counter was great. But I don’t understand why Dollar asks you to upload your license and credit card for faster check out. I still had to pull out my license and card. It was not any faster than not uploading…. Then a lady in front of me paid the 27.99 to “skip the counter” and.still had to go to the counter. Someone tell me why these options exist but don’t work? Other than that the rest of the experience was normal and easy.

Would never recommend. I booked through Priceline and was told I could use a debit or credit card for deposit once I got to the counter it was no one there so I was waved over to the hertz side and the manly looking lady asked me for my credit card I told her I was using debit she told me I could not use a debit card and once i explained Priceline stated I could she told me that they have no update their policy on there yet. She didn’t try to accommodate me in any way she was 100% rude. I would never do business with a company who hires someone like her.
