Easirent Car Rental Jacksonville International Airport (JAX)

I rarely leave one-star reviews, but this experience warrants it. I rented a Chevrolet Malibu from Easirent at the Jacksonville Airport (RA 4439915, Feb 15–18). The vehicle was mechanically operable and returned undamaged (full photos and video were taken at both pickup and drop-off). However, the interior had clearly been heavily treated with chemical deodorizing agents. During extended driving, the HVAC system amplified a strong chemical odor that caused significant respiratory irritation, sore throat, hoarseness, headache, and thick mucus production. The symptoms improved once I was out of the vehicle and returned when the air system was running. This was not a cosmetic concern; it materially affected the usability of the vehicle. I am sad to say that the experience with this company was the worst I ever had with a car rental company. The young man at the counter gave me information that was incorrect. (Mileage, etc..) The vehicle was dirty and full of grime that it was impossible to see any damage/scratches, however I was not given the opportunity to check myself, I was handed a sheet with the information on it already marked. I still wonder how he found those scratches with the vehicle so dirty and dusty in the first place. Then I was basically hustled out of $11.35 a day for windshield and tire "protection" even though I explained I had a credit card that will cover damages and also my own vehicle insurance. I recently rented from Easirent at the Jacksonville Airport, and this was easily the worst car rental experience I’ve ever had — and honestly the worst in-person customer service experience I’ve ever encountered anywhere. The problems started immediately upon arrival. Their office is not in the airport. It’s located offsite inside a run-down B&B Hotel, and the whole place feels sketchy from the moment you arrive. You enter through a side door that looks like it needs repair and cleaning, then walk down a hallway to a strange room with a counter. Everything looked dirty and poorly maintained. Terrible experience! Picked up my vehicle the night before I needed to leave. I was given the keys with no inspection of the vehicle and was able to leave. The car hadn’t been cleaned on the inside or outside because there was dirt on all the floor mats. The next morning after having packed the car to get on the road my wife noticed the tag was expired. After calling the local number and not being able to get an answer we were forced to backtrack and go back to the rental lot. I was the only customer there when I arrived.
