This is a true, honest family run business. I would take my car to the dealership for the convenience of a courtesy car. Once my car hit 100k miles they kept trying to get me to do a trade in and then one time (the last time I went to the dealership) they gave me a huge list of repairs including brakes pads that were all of a sudden on the red (my last visit they were in the green). So, I took my car to Frecks & Sons and asked them to review the list of recommendations from the dealer to see what I actually needed to do. I did not give F&S the price breakdown, mearly the list of suggested maintenance. Setup an appointment last week to have a look-over inspection of my newly purchased ’87 Elcamino. Since I’m not a mechanic, I like to get such an inspection done so I’m aware of all major issues. I gave the front lady a list of observations and told her I look forward to hearing what the professionals find in addition to my list or verify my findings. The owner called a few hours later saying that they don’t have time to address my list. I told him that’s ok, but if he could at least still do the pre-purchase inspection so that I could get a better idea of most issues I would need to fix/address for safety/mechanical purposes. Took my car here for State Inspection after another garage was trying to upsell and failed my car maliciously. Oddly enough, the issue was confirmed, and Frecks noted that it should not have failed. Honesty and integrity is such a great quality in a shop these days. New loyal customer here.

The rich man’s mechanic: TLDR: this shop wouldn’t do the simplest, cheapest fix, but would only do the most expensive and labor intensive repair. I hate to write a negative review, but I liked a lot about this shop, I believe they have a capable team, excellent front desk service and friendly staff, but I had completed a VTC actuator replacement in my Honda. Part of this job is to carefully put the timing chain back on the gears in the motor. After putting it back together, I got a P0341 code, which means the crankshaft is misaligned with the camshafts. To be fair, in 9 out of 10 cases, this is due to a stretched timing chain, but in my case I know that it’s just because I put it together incorrectly.
