Gabby’s Tires

There is a certain loneliness to a slow leak. You do not notice it at first. Just a tire that looks a little tired, a steering wheel that feels off by a whisper. Then one morning you see it sagging there like it has given up on you. I had one of those this weekend. I drove to the place I usually go. Google said they were open on Saturday. Google was wrong. I tried a couple other spots I have trusted before. Closed. I sat there in my truck with rain tapping the windshield and thought about how Saturdays used to mean something different. When I was younger you could pull up to the Phillips 66 on a Saturday morning. Half-Pint would look you in the eye and say, we will get you fixed up, and you believed him.
