Hertz Car Rental - Hilo - Hilo International Airport (ITO)

This has been the most exceptional experience we've had with Hertz in many years. Upon arrival on the big island, we were pleased to find the rental car company conveniently located directly across the street. Our representative, Roxanne, was instrumental in making this experience outstanding, particularly due to her exceptional service. When we discovered that the vehicle assigned to us was not satisfactory due to its small size and lack of cleanliness, Roxanne promptly took action and secured an alternative vehicle that met our group's requirements. We opted for a midsize vehicle, and during the inspection, we noted a small quarter-sized crack on the windshield. We had a good experience at this place. It was weekday of non holiday season around noon. There was no line at counter and it took few minutes to compete everything. The car we got was big for us so we exchanged without any hassle. Price was slightly more than online booking but not significantly high. Car was relatively new and smooth to drive. Return was also easy, took less than a minute. The person at counter was helpful overall.

Paid a very higher than normal rate to rent a jeep wrangler for 2 days. Car was reserved weeks in advance and was not ready when we arrived. 3 hour wait, for a dirty car, with dents, scratches and a damaged rear end from a previous collision. No other vehicles were available when we arrived. After about 2 hours of waiting we were offered a much lower level vehicle with no discount in price. Everyone in our party stayed calm and dealt with the delays as part of travel during busy season, but the customer service person at the desk then tried to act like he was the victim because we politely asked for some type of compensation for our long wait for a vehicle which ruined our plans for a prepaid trip we had reserved for our first day in Hilo.

I'm relatively frequent Hertz user and usually don't have any problems, however this rental experience is far away from normal. 1. I rented my first vehicle (2023 Malibu) from Hertz Kona and while driving to Hilo I noticed that the tires are very loud. Upon a check I found that the front tires are almost worn out and have pretty uneven thread pattern. I planned to rent a car for almost a month so I decided to stop by Hilo facility and ask for the replacement vehicle (Malibu). 2. I got a vehicle pretty fast, but just to realize that front tires there are even worse: the thread was just eaten out in a few spots.
