Payless Car Rental

I prepaid for a Payless car. I arrived at the Payless counter. I am told to move and get on the Avis line. There are 3 Avis counters open. There are no cars available for rent. Even prepaid ones. So 2 of the 3 employees are sitting at Avis computers unable to do anything. Then I get to the Avis counter after waiting in the Avis Line and employee goes back to Payless counter and tells me to go back there. I asked why I could not be helped by the 2 people at the Avis counter that were unable to work. Really did not get a good answer why I had to wait on the Avis line for Payless rental. I was told that there are no Payless employees and Avis employees had to cover these rentals. The wait to get to Avis counter to then be moved to the Payless counter was 1 hour. There 6 people in

The wait to be served is unacceptable. We waited for over and hour in a long line. As mentioned in another review, there's no rep at the Payless counter so we were forced to join the very long line for Avis and wait for their CSR to cross to the Payless counter to assist us. I gave 3 stars (which is a lot) only because the transaction was done in a timely manner. Vehicle return was a breeze, we just followed the signs and then we jumped on the airtrain to catch our flight.

Car was dirty externally. Couldn't even see well out of rear window it was so dirty. Body damage of rear bumper. I had to have the attendant at the exit gate document that for me. Smelled of cigarettes inside. No signage inside to say you need to stand in Avis rental line for Payless reservation. I was waiting in front of Payless desk and no one acknowledged me until 20 minutes later. I even called customer service and they confirmed someone should be at Payless desk. When I returned the car, three young attendants we're just chatting. Had to get out of car and ask for help. Felt like I was bothering them. He scanned car bar code and walked away. This was the worst service I ever had. I called Payless because they did not have their own office at JFK. The person who answered could not tell me where the office was. I entered the office and was in there for over an hour. They made me switch lines 3 times. They had no one at the counter to help me. It took over an hour for me to leave. This is the worst business in New York! Do not use Payless.

Both cars that were given to me were filthy. The woman helping me had to take the car back to get cleaned and it was still dirty when she brought it around. They then charged me $47 for dropping the car off 5 minutes past my grace period. When I told customer service what happened the guy literally said 'we can't guarantee that the cars are completely clean'. In the midst of a pandemic this is alarming to hear. $30 was returned to me but after accepting a car I was less than pleased with the cleanliness of I feel cheated.
