The Legacy at Santa Fe

My sweet mother in law has been a resident for just over 3 years now. Imagine moving from your home state of New Jersey, and moving clear across the country, from the ocean to the desert .... all of this at age 96! She transitioned beautifully, and we're so happy to have her living less than ten minutes away from us. She loves the Legacy, she calls it "the resort"! 🩷 Words alone cannot describe how wonderful this facility is ..... but I'll give it my best shot. Immediately you feel like you're at home when you walk in. It's so welcoming, bright and clean. And then there's the staff, well, what can I say, they are just incredible, every single one of them! My mother was given the false promise of a room on the east side with a mountain view on the top floor, but when we arrived they put her on the first floor right next to the front desk. The food they served us at a party the week before she moved in was represented to us as a regular quality of food that she would be receiving daily which was not the case. The food is basic cafeteria food. The second night she was there she pushed the button for assistance because she was on the floor and could not get back to her bed, no one ever showed up to asist her. She called me and wanted to leave immediately. I picked her up on the third day to bring her home. They kept several thousand dollars of her platinum deposit and would not refund it to her. We have asked over and over for the deposit back

Once we knew we needed help with caring for our Mom, my sisters and I visited many facilities before we made our decision. We were immediately drawn to the Legacy. The minute we walked in, I got a good feeling. It is modern, clean, and offers many activities to keep the residents engaged in life. All the staff we have interacted with so far have been compassionate and professional. Mom is a new resident, but we know we have made the right decision for her because she is safe, well cared for, and everyone that helps her has gone above and beyond to make her feel at home here. I feel like the people my Mom sees everyday truly care about her, and that helps give me peace that we made the right decision. I highly recommend the Legacy of Santa Fe to all who ask--this is a wonderful caring community, and I could not have chosen a better, more loving environment for my mom, who suffered from dementia. The staff could not have been sweeter and more helpful to her and to me, and the environment is so pretty, clean, happy and nurturing. And the food is delicious! Originally I moved mom into one of the larger apartments on the second floor, but when she declined rapidly, we moved her to "Connections," the memory care unit. She was happy, loved and very well cared for until the end, and I was treated with such kindness on all of my daily visits and throughout the transitions we made. I had a friend who lived here for a few years but thankfully is in a better place now. While the building looks nice, I don't think the care the residents receive is that great. I found management was not very friendly and the front desk staff friendly only maybe 50% of the time depending on who was working. My friend was often soaking wet and sometimes smelled of something else. Of course it depended on who the caregivers were, some were better than others but sometimes the room smelled awful as well and the bed would be unmade and the trash would be overflowing. And the food! It was the most awful looking and tasting food and was even worse than a nursing home. For as much as the residents pay to live there, they deserve much, much better.
