The Summit

Sadly The Summit in Lynchburg was bought out from Centra by Lifespire. Centra was resident-centric, Lifespire (at the Summit) is very much not. Overall the quality of everything has dropped to rock bottom as profit seems the primary focus not the residents. Contracts are not honored (contracted carpet cleaning not done because the Summit claims they can't afford to do it) yet they are in the midst of an $80 million expansion. Food quality has declined and we must posit that every dollar saved is a bonus to the executive-that is the only explanation. The executive in charge is a cold-fish and shows absolutely NO interest in the residents or their families. Residents are just their paycheck. The staff however is outstanding. The care my mom received was fair. Physical therapy was probably the best part. Was frustrated with the communication at the end with the medical devices needed at home and then ordering something totally different from what was discussed. When trying to discharge I was sent back and forth from nurses to social workers to have discharge paperwork done. There was also a conversation happening in one of the social workers office about a patient with door cracked.

We moved to the Summit Retirement Community two years ago and have never looked back. We joined a warm, welcoming community and have made many new friends and enjoy the numerous activities, trips, and events offered here, as well as the outstanding and delicious dining options. Everyone on the staff is caring and highly professional. We highly recommend the Summit to anyone who is looking for a lifestyle free of the responsibilities of maintaining a home while being "engaged in life." Carolyn and Bob Eubank

I was recommended to move to The Summit by a respected family friends. They were close friends of a lady who had aged in place here, at the Summit. I also knew several church friends who had moved to a well known retirement facility here in Lynchburg. However, because of my own positive experiences in viewing The Summit and the opportunity to visit with Summit Ladies l, I chose to move to The Summit. I moved to The Summit 3 1/2 years ago. I moved to the Summit three years ago and never regretted my decision. The single bedroom with den is spacious. The kitchen has excellent appliances and lazy susans in some cabinets to make retrieving items a breeze. Bi-monthly cleaning is thorough. I can walk in a rural atmosphere behind the building or a more urban atmosphere across the street. Groups exist for common interests with a wide choice of programming. The food is great. It's tailored to special needs and preferences. Check it out if you are looking for retirement living!
