Avis Car Rental

This is not about the Avis office, but regarding the rental van I received. This time the van was not cleaned well. Carpet was cleaned, but the sides, hand rest, levers, buttons were full of some kind of white grainy dust. Had to request them to clean again. The outside was a mess due to snow and salt and it was not washed. Later I realized that the white powder was coming out the air vents. But other wise the van drove nicely, seat heater and steering heater were the best. I had not seen in any car, these things heat up so fast as in this Pacifica. Had a smooth ride in this return trip. Otherwise the office staff are good and handle the clients well.

I travel for work and use car rentals a lot. Avis is the absolute worst. They cheat you constantly. Enterprise returns deposits within 3 days. Avis doesn’t return your $200 deposit even after 10 business days, even though you filled the car up with fuel, it was clean and no scratches or dents. Avis is highway robbery. I will never choose them again. Enterprise is 100% my go-to. When I called, they said I added on a bunch of insurance, which my original rental agreement doesn’t have on it, the paperwork says declined that insurance. Yet they charged me for it. They are very crooked. STAY AWAY FROM AVIS.

Avis Budget group always falls short on customer service, over charging ridiculous fees and even their rental selection is anything but the level it strives to be when it comes to competing with Enterprise/National. Which explains why they have to nickel and dime you for every single penny because they can’t compete. First off, I was in a rental for 30 days and I was told by a worker of the location I rented from to simply call in and they would re write my contract. 30 days comes and I call and call and call and no one answers the phone. The rental was due at 3 PM on 9/12. I go into the location on 9/15. Keep in mind I’ve already paid another 30 days before going into to get into another contract. They close out my account and I’m charged 380$ in late fees. A 1340$ rental becomes a 1720$

Update (Nov 2025): After several months and a BBB complaint, Avis finally issued a $35 refund and apologized for the inconvenience. I appreciate that the issue was eventually resolved, but it required multiple escalations and poor communication from the Providence office. I was initially hesitant to rent a car from this place because of some of the reviews I read. However, we decided to go ahead with it since their prices were very reasonable—and I’m glad we did! Everything went smoothly. Kevin was especially great—he’s very friendly and informative, making sure we knew everything we needed before taking the car. The car was also clean, which we really appreciated. Overall, a good experience.
