I stopped by around 4:30 PM on a Saturday for a smog check and was told I would need to come back because it’s “against state law” to perform smog checks after 4 PM or on Sundays due to a new law. After looking into it, that’s simply not true. There is no such state law, and I was able to get my smog check done the very next day (Sunday) at another licensed shop. If they had just told me they were closed for the day, that the technician had gone home, or that they stop testing at 4 PM, I would have completely understood and happily come back. What concerns me is being told something that appears to be false. It’s a small issue, but honesty matters — especially when it comes to your vehicle.
