My mother was 90 years old, had dementia, and COPD. Last year she had broken her hip, and although we believe that she was just shedding the virus, she was diagnosed with COVID. For 30 days she was kept in isolation, which accentuated her dementia. Her condition worsened, and because the hospital and rehab were short staffed, she was alone, confused, and desperate. We couldn't visit her because of the COVID restrictions. Because of her weakness, and the lack of care, we had trouble reaching her by phone. It was obvious the the end was near, and it seemed so unfair that she seemed forgotten. There was staff shortage, so she often went without cleanup, and the food wasn't good.
