Heatherwood Gracious Retirement Living

My wife and I were very happy with our visit to Heatherwood. We had high expectations, as both our father's lived at a nearby retirement home, owned by the same company (Hawthorn). We were visiting for my mom's needs. One of the managers, Christopher, was a fantastic host. I especially appreciated his candor. The building has just been renovated and looked beautiful, with lots of holiday decorations.

My mother lived at Heatherwood for about 8 years. She loved having friends and meeting new people, playing cards and dancing to the many musicians who performed regularly. Having meals in the beautiful dining room with friends, playing bingo, and going on outings with the bus kept her happy and healthy. As she needed more help, we hired the All In One healthcare team members to provide daily wellness checks and assist with her medications. It was always a joy to visit Mom, the neighbors became my friends as well. The cost is quite reasonable for the all inclusive housekeeping, meals, activities, transportation, movies, and 24 hour on site managers. I have visited and stayed over with my Mom many times while she has been in Heatherwood. The staff goes above and beyond to help their residents stay happy. They have a new chef, there are numerous activities and the medical personnel are available for assistance. My family knows Mom is in a beautiful, caring environment.

My father lived at Heatherwood for years. We had a great experience there. The facility offers a lot of amenities to the residents. The managers, Sue and Duncan, were very helpful to me and my family in transitioning my father to assisted living recently. Heatherwood is a nice place to call home.

The physical facility is very nice. The staff changes over quite frequently unfortunately. The activities are comparable to most other senior facilities and there is a bus available. The menu is controlled by the corporate office on the West Coast and no special diets are available. None. They don't even reduce the salt content as you normally would for seniors, so everyone has swollen ankles. The response to emergencies ie ambulances and such is great. Their response to broken pipes, no water, and no elevator problems have been much, much slower and quite inconvenient and were allowed to go on for 3+ weeks. I believe the Health Dept keeps a closer eye on them now. The rent goes up annually.
