Hertz Car Rental - Smithtown - East Jericho Turnpike

I realize Hertz is the Cheap John’s of car rentals but my experience was considerably sub par. After having bad experiences with rentals now having registration and insurance information in the glove box, I have a habit of checking that the info is readily available if needed. The fist vehicle assigned to me for my rental did not have any registration information available. After speaking to the manager the assistant advised there’s a sticker on the plate as well as the windshield. There were neither. The manager then attempted to email someone to acquire something temporary when after waiting 20 mins the associate advised he could put me in another vehicle. Horrible and rude manager, Andrew, never got up from his desk in his office to speak with me, yelled to me through his office to tell me that since I only purchased managers special he only had an electric car, this car was reserved the day prior with no knowledge that it was electric. With me having no experience driving an electric car and that I would be traveling alone at night I cancelled. Then got charged $100 cancellation fee! Go to Hertz in Centereach, they were amazing and helpful - got me a car within minutes for less than what this guy was going to charge! Will never do business with this branch again! I did get the charge reversed by calling customer service.

Our experience with this particular Hertz location is wonderful. They were very helpful. They assisted us in selecting the right car. Very accommodating and friendly. They gave us a good car at a reasonable price. Overall it was a great experience working with Hertz.

Rental was for full sized sedan, given compact. Due to circumstances I could not stay for a replacement vehicle and had to leave immediately after the car was driven up and the associate abruptly went back inside. The vehicle stunk like marijuana and cigarettes, dirty inside, ashes/residue on dash/shifter, tires felt way off/sluggish - went to local GS and verified the tires were at 20psi x4; had to inflate to vehicle specs to operate safely. Unable to contact rental center while out (no one answers the phones), picked up at 11am and they closed Sat at12p, closed Sunday, returned Monday at 10am with 1 mile on the vehicle (to park at home d/t store being closed).
