I had a very bad experience renting a car from Hertz in France (Orly Airport). The car I was given suffered a major safety failure at night and had to be towed. I was then downgraded to a vehicle far below the category I had paid for, and later received an unjustified extra charge. No goodwill gesture, no serious handling of the case. Very disappointing for a brand with such an international reputation. ------------------------------------------- -> Thanks for your copy-paste automatic reply. This just proves that nobody at Hertz really reads customers’ reviews. For my part, a formal legal notice has already been sent to Hertz to obtain a real answer.

UNSAFE VEHICLES Hertz used to be my favourite of the rentals companies - but they now issue unsafe cars. I hired a car in Crete in September and was told I was being given an upgrade. The 'upgrade' was the same category car I'd booked but with 'added character'. This included no parking brake (button had snapped off completely), stained seats, dented body panels and possibly 0 maintenance in it's hard-worked 60,000 km. All these things I could tolerate, if it hadn't been for the brakes, which were absolutely shot, juddering and vibrating unless feathered with a scary stopping distance. I complained mid-rental and was expected to take 3 hours out of my short holiday to drive to the airport and exchange it. Failure at every opportunity. Hertz Hollywood HLE, 2233 Pembroke Rd. Hollywood, FL 33020 FIRST FAILURE I booked a midsize rental weeks in advance. I arrived at location and was told they only had electric vehicles. I didn’t rent an electric vehicle and I didn’t want one. I wasn’t going to be in a situation where charging was ideal. However, I needed a car and I was stuck. I asked the agent for some level of compensation for a) not having the car I requested and b) giving me a car that was less expensive than what I rented. SECOND FAILURE The agent suggested that I cancel my reservation and rebook a reservation for an electric vehicle so that I can get that price. Just picked up my rental from my local Hertz. Upon arrival at home, I realized how dirty and disgusting the interior of the vehicle was. I cleaned and disinfected it for over an hour. Why....because I need to get my family to Arizona for a family wedding. I've been trying now for 45 minutes to speak to someone other than the salesman who said to just bring it in, and they would swap it out. Do better, Hertz!!! As you can see from my pictures, I'm not lying. And if this is how you treat gold members....how does a regular Joe get treated!?!?! ***And wow...this is how the Corporate office responds....Hertz will never get money from me or any family members!!!
