Payless Car Rental

horrible service, waiting for 2 hours. They had no courtesy to be apologetic about it. They had so many cars ready to go but yet they made all customers wait for them to clean returned car and then assign them. Yet the car I got was not even cleaned well. I had no patience to wait and switch the car. Worst experience ever. Not coming back to this place again. Wasted 2 hrs of my life . There were many families like us with kids who all had to tolerate this nonsense.

***** READ THIS BEFORE RENTING FROM PAYLESS IN KAUAI ***** This was easily the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. If I could rate this company 0 stars I would. When me and my partner first picked up our vehicle, it had a slow tire leak. Instead of starting our vacation, we had to waste time driving around Kauai trying to find somewhere to put air in the tires just so the car would be safe to drive. We paid $5 out of pocket to fill the tires and kept the receipt, but Payless has still not reimbursed us. We returned the car because of the tire issue and got a Jeep in return. Immediately getting into the Jeep, we noticed it smelled strongly of weed and alerted an employee so it was documented that the smell was already there before we used the vehicle. I was nervous after I booked this because of the many recent bad reviews, but I had a great experience. I booked through Expedia and didn’t get hit with any extra fees or hidden charges. I didn’t wait in line and the entire transaction took all of 5 minutes. Car was clean, ran great, and I had no issues. I’m imagining if folks are dealing with long wait times it’s because they’re coming from the airport right after a plane lands.

Very BAD company. If you book a Dodge Challenger or similar, they tell you that they do not have a challenger (and actually never even have one in their inventory) but they can put you in a Mazda Miata. They also said they can’t do anything and if you pay an extra $200 they can get you into a Mustang. This is ridiculous and the manager is completely inept and rude. AVOID.

Extremely rude staff member all the way at the end at the Payless counter. After telling us that nothing we had reserved is available, without even pretending to try and help or any sign of regret, walked off after we asked to speak to a manager, saying that it’s not her job. Not sure what her duties are, but from our experience they are limited to chewing gum in customer’s faces. Should not be client facing.
