I’ll be honest: the GM 8L90 transmission doesn’t exactly have a fan club. It’s known for riding as smoothly as a shopping cart with a stuck wheel. We knew it had a rough reputation from the start, but the reassurance my father was given here was “optimistic.” The price he paid was VERY reasonable compared to the Charleston market, and we chose this place because other people spoke highly of it. I’m not sure who he talked to, but they gave their word this tranny would last a very long time—maybe even the life of the truck. Fast-forward: the transmission was rebuilt here around 80k miles, and now at 108k miles—just 2–3 years later—I’m getting it rebuilt again at another shop. The 1-year warranty expired before the truck even finished its next nap. This thing is barely driven, and its tough
I took my vehicle in to fix a transmission problem, they kept it 4 weeks and I was told that they had rebuilt my transmission. 5 weeks later it started shaking so my dad ( a retired mechanic) took a look and a test drive....when they "rebuilt" my transmission, they had done absolutely zero with the torque converter, so again I took it back...another 3 weeks...a month later, I'm leaking transmission fluid...if I could give this business a negative 10 stars I would...STRONGLY RECOMMEND TAKING UR VEHICLE SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR SERVICE
Wonderful place to get it done right. They have experts on site like Mr. Pete Hazelton that undeniably know their work as well or better than they know themselves. That takes real dedication....
After 3 visits and about a year I think they finally got the problem fixed. Only time will tell. As far as the work, the mechanics try their best to resolve the issue. The customer service up front are easy to talk with. But with the owner Toney, make sure you get everything in writing. He will tell you one thing and do another. I ended up paying twice for the problem that was suppose to been fixed a year ago and under their one year warranty. Toney has a bad attitude and don't mind showing it to his customers. This time if the problem isn't fixed I may have to get a lawyer involve because I don't want to deal personally with him anymore I gave them a one star just because of them having good employees. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't even have given superior transmissions any stars j
I bought a Jeep Cherokee he was selling because the previous owner refused to pay for the services provided. It was $6,000. Previous owner was smarter than me. Apparently he knew that the Jeep was not fixed. The vehicle ran a few months then it quit. Tony was given the opportunity to makes things right. He refused. This is a godless place without the ability to fixed anything, much less your vehicle. It would be a serious mistake to take your car there.
