Thrifty Car Rental - Lihue Airort

We got the manager’s special as a mustang convertible to which they “upgraded” us to a Chevy equinox (idk if that’s an upgrade). Then when we got our car, it was quite dirty. I understand the red dirt is hard to clean, but like- even our clothes were covered. The car would also randomly break on us, fob would die, and then the lights would shut off- it was sometimes scary. Attached are the photos of how we received the car.

Rented a jeep and the second day we had it it over heated in Hanalei and left myself and handicapped girlfriend stranded on our last day with all our luggage and told us we were on our own. Our flight back to mainland was that day and I explained that to them put they said get a Uber driver. This was at 1 in the afternoon. What a disaster. We ended up taking a bus with all our luggage at around 4:30. We barely made our flight home. They told me to leave the keys in car and tow truck will get it. On the way to airport got a phone call from tow company that they couldn't find the jeep. This was a disaster. They found it the next day where I left in the parking lot of the church

Despite a long line at the rental counter, our service agent Kimmie made up for the wait by her pleasant disposition and warm Aloha greeting. We took a chance on the "Managers Special" and got really lucky that a jeep was available, likely with some help from Kimmie. We are celebrating our 20th anniversary and the car has been such an pleasant surprise!

On February 6, the customer service agent, Simone, was nice. However, the reservation she pulled up was almost three times more expensive than the price I had through Expedia. She was asking for an additional $500, even though everything, including taxes, had already been paid through Expedia. I walked across the street to Hertz, where the supervisor, Rey, was able to help resolve the issue. He was busy supervising three rental agencies at the time, but he quickly found the correct reservation. I was on the road with only about a 25-minute delay. I hope staff are retrained on how to properly locate Expedia reservations so this won’t be an issue for others in the future. Overall, the interaction was positive.

If I could give them zero stars, I would. The SUV we reserved wasn’t available, and the clerk couldn’t give us an estimate on when it would be ready. But she offered us a sedan that wouldn’t fit our family plus bags. We waited for an hour, with elderly parents waiting for us at the airport. Once we finally got the car, it was a clunker. Inside was dirty and stained, no spare tire despite the tires looking really worn, and the touch screen doesn’t work. This car wasn’t cheap, but the rental place was so crowded and we had to go, so I couldn’t fight it.
