I’ve been renting from the Avis location in Matawan for years without any issues, but ever since the new management took over, everything has gone downhill. They recently changed their policy about leaving a personal car in the parking lot, but no one informed me—not when I booked and not even when I called to confirm. I had to call five separate times just to get someone on the phone. When I arrived with my personal vehicle, I was told I couldn’t leave it on the lot, which forced me to drive back home and find someone to bring me back. By the time I returned, it was after hours, and there was no one available to address any concerns. To make matters worse, the rental car was very dirty. As other reviewers have reported, there was a change in parking and leaving your personal car there while you rent a car. Totally unacceptable. Numerous signs all over. No overnight parking. You will be towed. How can you do business like that when you are a car rental agency. Most people drive there, leave their car, take your rental car and then go on their day. I don't agree with this policy and I'm very disgusted with it. There was only one agent working at the desk. When I went to pick up my rental car he had to first clean the car for the person in front of me. I reserved a small compact car and got stuck with a Jeep. Why do you allow reservations for smaller cars when you can't provide them? I don't care that I got that bigger car for the same price. That means more gas money comi

My fiancé and I reserved a compact car about a week ago. To our dismay, the online system overbooked cars that were not available once we got there. Fortunately for us, Audra saved the day. She managed to find us a substitute car miraculously despite the system messing up. Her customer service was outstanding given the stressful situation and made us feel at ease. AVIS/Budget is lucky to have an employee like Audra, as we were lucky to have someone who is truly looking out for the customers' best interests.

I had one of the worst rental experiences I’ve ever had with Avis. The vehicle they gave me was completely unacceptable — it was banged up with multiple nicks and dents, had noticeably high mileage, and worst of all, the trunk wouldn’t fully close because it was stuck. Within 10 minutes of leaving the lot, I went back and even called them, expecting a simple exchange for a functional vehicle. Instead, they refused to help. I ended up having to drive out of state with a broken trunk, constant warning messages flashing on the dashboard, and beeping alerts going off the entire time saying the trunk was open. Not only was this unsafe, it was incredibly stressful for the entire trip.

I have been a customer of this AVIS location for many years and always have great service. Very quick in and out. Mike and Audra are friendly and helpful, even when they only have limited amount of cars to work with at their location. Bravo!!!
