SIXT Rent a Car Kona Int. Airport

We did not have favorable experiences at 2 other rental companies in Kailua-Kona. We were very impressed with our rental through Sixt! Nicole greeted us upon arrival and surprised us with an upgrade for our anniversary trip. She was so incredibly sweet, giving us her recommendations along with a Big Island magazine guide for our stay. The 2025 BMW X3 rental was clean, comfortable, shockingly fuel efficient, and had so many smart features! (Although I don't understand why this BMW has a moonroof you can't open but that's not on Sixt...) The return process was seamless and quick. We would 1000% use Sixt again!

Everything was great, except it took us 1 hour of waiting for the staff to assist two customers in front of us. I understand these situations are uncontrollable, so I am coming back here for my next Hawai'i visit and will edit this post to 5-star. It is also worth noting the location is further away from the other major car rentals, but the shuttle service is efficient.

We arrived after a long flight from New York and were greeted by a very long line at the car rental counter due to a technical issue. The staff had to process everything manually, so the line was moving quite slowly. That said, the team handled the situation professionally and stayed calm under pressure. In the end, they upgraded my reservation to a convertible — which, honestly, is exactly what you want to drive in Hawaii! They also provided a complimentary full tank of fuel, which was a very generous gesture. I really appreciate how they managed the crisis and took care of their customers despite the challenges. This company Cheats off from you. They don’t give you full gas tank make you bring it in full. Manager emphasized that to bring car in full tank. When I got the car it’s 489 miles left to drive and after filling the gas for return it is 599 miles to drive. During pick up: Delay and no cars forced to get upgrade to bmw.

The SIXT car rental agency at Kona is fantastic!!!! They have a friendly, professional, efficient staff and the two car rentals I used when I was on the island was fantastic. The cars were clean and super high-quality. I cannot recommend this company enough, especially after a lousy experience in Maui waiting for over an hour and a half to get a car at Payless for the week. Thank you again SIXT of Kona!!!!
