If I could give zero stars I would. This was by far the worst rental car experience of my life. Despite booking a pre-paid rental online and using the QR code while in line to fill out all the information for the desk clerk I still had to wait nearly 2 hours in line and 1.5 hours past my reservation time to get my rental car. After that the nightmare didn’t stop. I then received an e-mail during the middle of my trip before my rental was due back with an e-receipt for $1000 something. I called customer service who said they would fix it and then I got another e-receipt for a $600 something charge and an e-mail from a customer service rep named Jeff claiming that I was charged so much because I returned the vehicle to the incorrect location. Rented a car in Charlotte, South Carolina while on a weeks' vacation. An avid Enterprise rental car customer, we only opted to go with budget for the price and the offer of one free level upgrade upon rental pick up. Got to the rental counter and had to wait several minutes for an agent sauntered out from the back. She was quick to have me sign their electronic pad for all the additional charges that they were going to assess to me despite the fact I prepaid for my rental, and when I inquired about our upgrade, she quickly told me that none were available. I told her that I wouldn't even have reserved this car if it weren't for the free upgrade option. She said sorry. And saw the paperwork was signed and delivered. I rented a car Dec 28 from Charleston SC and drove it to Savannah. I dropped it off on Jan 3, I was terrible; it took almost 1 hour at the Charleston airport desk to get the rental, had to walk far to get to the car. The car was very unsafe; the front end shook violently while driving at about 55-65 mph, and I thought it was going to fall apart. Also, the steering was off at that speed; it wasn't responding well at all. Driving locally and on the side roads was okay, so I tried to keep off the highways, which was difficult for our road trip. Also, it wasn't really clean. My wife found food receipts and an unused condom under the seats. Recommendations: Book budget over Avis. Had a terrible time with Avis. It’s a walk to from the desk to where the cars are, so prepare for that. Lastly, take video and pictures of it before you get in so you don’t have extra charges for any damage that may have been there prior. This saved me in Europe with hertz. Rental: We booked a midsize suv and received an upgrade to a truck. Which was okay with us. The gentlemen at the counter were really kind and funny. Service: Truck was ready and clean. It’s a bit of a hike to the rental area here at the airport so it being ready was nice, brings we landed around midnight. Building: Part of the airport so it is what it is. Waited 30min at the counter with a long line, had to call customer service to get someone to come help (also had so much time i checked the garage rental car station and it was empty and said to go inside).There were two guys who eventually showed up, one of which was just sitting in the room behind the counter while people from other counters were knocking on the closed door he sat behind since the line was growing so long. Once someone eventually helped me, he was super rude and went out of his way to tell us “we didn’t wait that long”. Then proceeded to up charge me because they didn’t have the vehicle I ordered available. BTW all other rental car providers had helpful, fully staffed booths both in the garage and airport terminal.
