Stop & Go Transmissions

Had an appointment for transmission work and got into an accident. I brought it there and they said they'd handle the transmission and body work with my insurance. They do the transmission work for $3,000 and then immediately stop communicating with my insurance company and doesn't call me back. They likely knew my car would be valued as a total loss, even though they told me they'd be able too fix it, so they took my $3,000 and then just stopped responding. They do quick work but the owner seems incredibly untrustworthy.

Stop and go Transmission came highly recommended by my mechanic to have transmission work done. I had an engine light come on with a message “transmission service required”. The work was done in a timely manner, and very reasonable. When it was time for me to pick it up, Joel, the owner took it out for a ride, and we were out for a good 20 minutes. My Volvo runs real smooth, and I couldn’t be happier.

Had a 5-speed Corolla manual transmission rebuilt here...it worked for 4000 miles but then failed again. The biggest pain was being without the car for many months...service here was pretty slow. However, the owner is very nice and knowledgeable, and he gave me a partial refund on the work due to my trouble. Recommend you get an estimate up front on how long the work will take and make sure to communicate that you need the car back, else it might be hard getting prioritized. Part of the communication problem was on my end, since my phone decided to stop delivering voicemails. I originally blamed the shop for this but then found out my voicemail service went kaput, so I wasn't getting their messages. They do call back...ignore my previous review.

Took me for $138.00. No receipt, cash only, no diagnosis, only a verbal estimate to spend more money. Avoid this shop. It's shady to say the least. I changed the fluid and the filter and got it running.

Our transmission gave us trouble as we were driving from Long Island to Boston. It was late Thursday afternoon, they were closing soon but the owner Joel said to bring the car in and asked if we wanted him to call Enterprise Rental for a car. He did and we had a rental car 10 minutes after we got there. We called the next day from Boston. He said our car was a simple fix and it was ready to go Friday afternoon. We found him professional, ethical and very helpful. He saved our weekend. We would highly recommend Stop & Go Transmissions!
