I had a very disappointing experience with the Avis Rental Car location in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. A rental vehicle was arraigned for a consultant I brought into our organization, with a confirmed contract for vehicle pickup at 9:00 p.m. When the consultant arrived at the airport that evening, the Avis location was completely shut down. There were no staff present, no after-hours instructions (except a phone number that rang to a phone behind a closed door), and no communication of any kind explaining how to retrieve the reserved vehicle. As a result, we were forced to find alternative was for our consultant to be transported to Phelps, and he ultimately had to rely on a maintenance worker at the airport to get a ride to a local hotel. I’ve rented 2 times from Rhinelander Avis and both times the falsely charged me first $ 150 for a gas and now $157 for keys I turned in. They have a racket over there.

This place charged my senior citizen father $250 for a single day car rental and refused to give him the price until after his credit card was charged. They have also refused to honor his 30% AARP discount. This place has terrible customer service and complaints will be filed.

Avis-No one at airport to deliver our vehicle we reserved two weeks before. No one answered the phone. We had to spend an extra 200+ dollars for lodging when we already had a lake cottage at 850/week. The employee would have cost Avis $600+ if another rental agent would have been available. Avis was negligent in providing the service we did not receive. The employee of Avis and Avis showed no concern about the extra cost to their customers; and should return our cost. Days Inn in Rhinelander was only room available secondary to a festival in town, and we only got that because an airport employee was kind enough to provide a ride.
